Spiritual warfare

Why do people study spiritual warfare?

 They are curious.

 They are in a battle and need help.

 They know people in a battle and want to understand how to help.

 They are preparing for ministry and know they are likely to encounter it.

Why do people often avoid spiritual warfare?

Fear

Anecdotes

Controversies

Theology

Secularization

Many Christians don’t even like to hear the word “demon.” They are overwhelmed by their fear of the unknown and unseen.

There are all sorts of stories (anecdotes) about crazy things that have happened in the name of spiritual

warfare ministry. Such stories highlight the need for a biblically balanced approach to the subject.

Some churches and individuals avoid the topic of spiritual warfare because it can be controversial and

they are afraid it will drive people away from their church.

Certain schools of theology teach that Christians are essentially immune to demons and can’t be bothered by

them beyond temptation. People with these theological convictions generally oppose all forms of spiritual warfare ministry.

Western Christians tend to live with a worldview that minimizes the role of spirits in our everyday lives. As a

result, they are blind to the work of both the Holy Spirit and “unholy” spirits.
